IS FRO YO BETTER THAN ICE-CREAM?

Frozen yogurt is a relatively new product to most people here in Ireland and most people fail to differentiate it from soft serve ice-cream, but there are quite a lot of differences when it comes to the health side of things! Here are six reasons why frozen yogurt is better than ice cream.
For a start, frozen yogurt as its name suggests is made from yogurt unlike ice cream which is made of cream. This means that it has much less fat, 0% in our case, while ice cream by definition must have at least 10% fat. Since the flavor of ice cream depends on its fat content, the higher the quality, the more the fat content. Gelato for example will have up to 20% fat content.
Frozen yogurt is considered a health food, not just a snack or dessert for various reasons, one is because it contains probiotics, healthy bacteria that aid the body in digestion and boost the immune system by catalysing the production of essential vitamins that keep the body fine tuned.
Nutritionally, yogurt also beats ice cream hands down! Fro yo as some people like to call it contains carbohydrates, protein and vitamins, all in higher quantities than ice cream, and it also packs a healthy dose of calcium which aids in strengthening bones (them bones, them bones need calcium, recall that ad anyone?!), keeping the heart in good shape, and also helps in losing weight.
By virtue of its yogurt base, frozen yogurt is good for people who are lactose intolerant unlike ice cream which is rich in lactose thus a no-no in cases of indigestion for both adults and kids.
Diabetic patients can also have sugar free frozen yogurt because lactose (milk sugars) which is present in milk and ice cream, is broken down by the live cultures in yogurt making it healthy for diabetics.
In the warm Indian weather, you will also find frozen yogurt more convenient as it melts and freezes at a higher temperature than ice cream due to the different structure of its yogurt base. We think it is not just a matter of novelty and taste, but making healthy choices in life.
